The Preda Vineyard extends on the eastern slope of the municipality of Barolo, in the area that slopes toward the Rio Bussia. This is a historic portion, already identified in the land registries with the ancient spelling Prea, in use as many as thirty years before the official subdivision into MGA came into being. Today the name "Prea" extends to a wider area, which also includes less homogeneous slopes but all marked by a strong identity.
The soils here are marly, deep and rather evolved, with a significant component of sand in the highest part of the slope, where landslide dynamics have not been lacking in the past. Usually, sand in vineyards tends to give lighter wines with less color and structure. Yet, in the case of the Preda grown by Viberti, the opposite happens: the wines show surprising chromatic richness, flesh and a firm, at times rustic, tannic texture that makes them immediately recognizable.
The eastern exposure ensures slow and regular ripening, preserving acidity and aromatic details. The Barolo that comes from this vineyard is direct, authentic, more biting in the early stages of evolution, but capable of surprising over time with a savory, territorial persistence.
